Eyes on the Screen: 100 Years of YLE for Young Audiences

The Radio and TV Museum Mastola’s new exhibition, Eyes on the Screen: 100 Years of YLE for Young Audiences, invites visitors on a journey back to childhood. Opening on 9 September 2026, the exhibition celebrates the 100-year history of Finland’s national public broadcaster, Yle.

Visitors will encounter familiar characters, unforgettable programmes, and shared media memories spanning generations, from the early days of radio to today’s era of streaming. Along the way, they will meet beloved classics and many other iconic children’s programme characters.

The exhibition also explores how radio and television have educated, entertained, and shaped shared experiences for nearly a century.

On display are original puppets, costumes, props, letters, and behind-the-scenes materials from children’s programmes. Visitors can listen to, watch, and reminisce about programmes from different decades, while also reflecting on their own relationship with screens and media.

Once, people waited for programmes. Now, programmes are waiting for you.
